Question Title What is the difference between Unicast and Multicast?
In addition to 2 types of streaming we can also make a distinction between 2 types based on the underlying technique used: unicast and multicast.
  • Unicast establishes a connection for every user between the server and the media player.
  • Multicast "sends" 1 signal to all the users.
Multicast is very suitable for live streaming, but is not (yet) supported by most internet providers. Multicast can reach a wider audience with a small amount of bandwidth.
